81:1 | إِذَا الشَّمسُ كُوِّرَت When the sun Kuwwirat (wound round and lost its light and is overthrown). 'Idha Ash-Shamsu Kūwirat |
81:2 | وَإِذَا النُّجُومُ انكَدَرَت And when the stars shall fall; Wa 'Idha An-Nujūmu Ankadarat |
81:3 | وَإِذَا الجِبَالُ سُيِّرَت And when the mountains shall made to pass away; Wa 'Idha Al-Jibalu Suyyirat |
81:4 | وَإِذَا العِشَارُ عُطِّلَت And when the pregnant she-camels shall be neglected; Wa 'Idha Al-`Isharu `Uţţilat |
81:5 | وَإِذَا الوُحُوشُ حُشِرَت And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together; Wa 'Idha Al-Wuĥūshu Ĥushirat |
81:6 | وَإِذَا البِحَارُ سُجِّرَت And when the seas shall become as blazing Fire or shall overflow; Wa 'Idha Al-Biĥaru Sujjirat |
81:7 | وَإِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَت And when the souls shall be joined with their bodies; Wa 'Idha An-Nufūsu Zūwijat |
81:8 | وَإِذَا المَوءُودَةُ سُئِلَت And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. Wa 'Idha Al-Maw'ūdatu Su'ilat |
81:9 | بِأَيِّ ذَنْب ٍ قُتِلَت For what sin she was killed? Bi'ayyi Dhanbin Qutilat |
81:10 | وَإِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَت And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open; Wa 'Idha Aş-Şuĥufu Nushirat |
81:11 | وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ كُشِطَت And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; Wa 'Idha As-Sama'u Kushiţat |
81:12 | وَإِذَا الجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَت And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze Wa 'Idha Al-Jaĥimu Su``irat |
81:13 | وَإِذَا الجَنَّةُ أُزلِفَت And when Paradise shall be brought near, Wa 'Idha Al-Jannatu 'Uzlifat |
81:14 | عَلِمَت نَفس ٌ مَا أَحضَرَت (Then) every person will know what he has brought (of good and evil). `Alimat Nafsun Ma 'Aĥđarat |
81:15 | فَلاَ أُقْسِمُ بِالخُنَّسِ So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). Fala 'Uqsimu Bil-Khunnasi |
81:16 | الجَوَارِ الكُنَّسِ And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, Al-Jawari Al-Kunnasi |
81:17 | وَاللَّيلِ إِذَا عَسعَسَ And by the night as it departs; Wa Al-Layli 'Idha `As`asa |
81:18 | وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ And by the dawn as it brightens; Wa Aş-Şubĥi 'Idha Tanaffasa |
81:19 | إِنَّه ُُ لَقَولُ رَسُول ٍ كَرِيم ٍ Verily, this is the Word (this Qur'an brought by) a most honourable messenger [Jibrael (Gabriel), from Allah to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)]. 'Innahu Laqawlu Rasūlin Karimin |
81:20 | ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِنْدَ ذِي العَرشِ مَكِين ٍ Owner of power, and high rank with (Allah) the Lord of the Throne, Dhi Qūwatin `Inda Dhi Al-`Arshi Makinin |
81:21 | مُطَاع ٍ ثَمَّ أَمِين ٍ Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the heavens). Muţa`in Thamma 'Aminin |
81:22 | وَمَا صَاحِبُكُمبِمَجْنُون ٍ And (O people) your companion (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is not a madman; Wa Ma Şaĥibukum Bimajnūnin |
81:23 | وَلَقَدرَآهُ بِالأُفُقِ المُبِينِ And indeed he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] in the clear horizon (towards the east). Wa Laqad Ra'ahu Bil-'Ufuqi Al-Mubini |
81:24 | وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الغَيبِ بِضَنِين ٍ And he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) withholds not a knowledge of the unseen. Wa Ma Huwa `Alá Al-Ghaybi Biđaninin |
81:25 | وَمَا هُوَ بِقَولِ شَيطَان ٍ رَجِيم ٍ And it (the Qur'an) is not the word of the outcast Shaitan (Satan). Wa Ma Huwa Biqawli Shayţanin Rajimin |
81:26 | فَأَينَ تَذهَبُونَ Then where are you going? Fa'ayna Tadh/habūna |
81:27 | إِن هُوَ إِلاَّ ذِكر ٌ لِلعَالَمِينَ Verily, this (the Qur'an) is no less than a Reminder to (all) the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). 'In Huwa 'Illa Dhikrun Lil`alamina |
81:28 | لِمَنشَاءَ مِنْكُم أَنيَستَقِيمَ To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, Liman Sha'a Minkum 'An Yastaqima |
81:29 | وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلاَّ أَنيَشَاءَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ العَالَمِينَ And you will not, unless (it be) that Allah wills, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). Wa Ma Tasha'ūna 'Illa 'An Yasha'a Allahu Rabbu Al-`Ālamina |
